Randy is a New Yorker who was told to move to Scotland to create an international research centre for beauty. He had no money, just a vision, and over 400 people gave him 1 million pounds. The centre has been open now for over 9 years.
Randy has exhibited his drawings and paintings in Ayr, St Andrews, Aberdeen, New York, Houston, London, Milan & Perugia, Italy, Minden, Germany, Kyoto, Japan and The Hague, Netherlands. He has been teaching art for 25 years, in the Moray Art Centre/Studio, which he built, in Findhorn (7 studios & 2 exhibition spaces, UK Partner with The British Museum & The National Galleries of Scotland), and at Edinburgh Drawing School.
Randy have given keynote talks in The European Registrars’ Conference at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Museums Galleries Scotland, Big Lottery and Creative Scotland.
Randy has created, curated and delivered two exhibitions with The British Museum (Italian Renaissance drawings & Classical Greek sculpture), also working with The National Galleries of Scotland, Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum, Paisley Museum and Art Gallery and The Courtauld Gallery, in which he designed scholarly catalogues and associated education programmes.
He speaks of his dedication to beauty as an anti-depressant, of beauty experienced viscerally, of beauty as the alleviation of pain. His local authority has chosen to take his approach of Creative Coping Mechanisms (using creativity and beauty as a solution, an alternate coping mechanism), as a mainstream approach to people with substance misuse issues.
